hi,
the fact of the matter is that this obsession with 10 has been perturbing me a lot.. to such an extent that i knew i had to write abt it.. tell ppl.. so the blog..
so where do i start.. has any of u realized how obsessed we r wid 10. let me explain... 10 signifies perfection... since time immemorial students have been scored on a scale of 10.. 10 means full marks.. 10 means perfection.. it has been drilled into our heads that 10 is wat u shud aim for.. 10 is perfection.. anythin less and u r a loser...
now u may wonder.. wy am i suddenly so perturbed abt this whole 10 business.. its been there a 4 a long time.. unquestioned.. established by an unwritten rule...
it perturbs me cos never till today has 10 assumed such a great importance as it has now.. sample.. advertising.. remember the close up ad (no i guess its pepsodent.. ) yes pepsodent ad... "dus nahi toh bas nahi"... 10 is the magic figure.. pepsodent fights with 10 probs.. other toothpastes dont.. so use pepsodent..
eg no. 2: arial 10 on 10... arial daag hataye 10 tough corners se... and they went on 2 point out the 10 corners.. collars, cuffs, and wat not.. and wen they cud not get 10 places to speak of .. viewers were asked to send in sms abt what they think r the tough corners...
now wud anyone plz explain where that 10 idea came from... y cudn't advertisers say pepsodent fights wid 5 probs or 7 (cos i dont think evn a dentist wud know 10 problems dat affect our pearly whites and further 10 probs dat can be avoided by merely using a certain brand of toothpaste..) and wat abt the aerial guys? where did the 10 come from.. why 10? as far as i remember wen i was a kid i was soiled from head to toe.. no tough corners.. da whole dress used to be a tough wash..
now dat i dont remain so much of a hooligan anymore.. i can think of certain places that get extra dirty than oders...

2) cuffs... and and and... my imagination fails me.. it does.. where did they get the 10 from?
but ofcourse the advertisers dint not do straight thinking.. dey read a little of edward de bono who says start from the end (i read his book from the end.. dint understand a word.. but dats a different matter altogether..) so the advertisers thought ok.. so parents want their children to get perfect 10s.. children want perfect 10s.. so lets give it to them.. so they started with 10 in mind and cooked up 10 reasons to use the product advertised..
it beats me.. does it work.. i dont know.. but i wud rather it dint.. i like imperfection.. perfection is filthy.. perfection is death.. as long as there is imperfection.. there is life.. there is improvement.. there is change... wen there is perfection there is nothing left.. its morbid death.
but to say we dont want 10s would be hypocrisy.. we are all obsessed with 10.. wid perfection.. jst like it wud be hypocrisy to say that i dont want u to give me 10 for this article...
